Notes:
The Google Map takes you to entrance of Bishop Museum parking lot. You can park anywhere available. Since meetings are in the evening parking is usually not a problem. Ask Security personnel for directions to the Planetarium. This is where we hold our monthly club meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm. Meetings end around 9:00 pm after which free refreshments are available (cookies & punch). Members and visitors can view the night sky after the meeting in the Planetarium.

Waikele Community Park (Star Party)
The Waikele Community Park is just North of the Waikele Shopping Center and is located at the intersection of Lumiaina St and Pulelo Street which has a stop light. There is a Fire Station on one end of the property. The Community Center has an ample parking lot, restrooms, swimming pool and children play ground which is on the other corner. Most is visible from Lumiaina St. The area where the telescopes are setup is just North of the Community Building and parking lot on a raised large flat area not visible from the main road.
Address:
94-870 Lumiaina St
Waipahu, HI 96797
(Get Directions)

Notes:
Short direction from points East: Exit the H-1 onto Kam Highway. Travel North to the third stop light which should be Lumiaina St. Go left on Lumiaina St and go to the second stop light which will be Pulelo St. Turn right on Pulelo St and go about 150 feet - turn left into the parking lot.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Short direction from points West: Exit H-1 at Waikele/Waipahi Exit 7. Keep to the left. At the stop light turn left and go under H-1. Go to the second stop light (not counting the one before you went under H-1). Turn right on Lumiaina St. Go to the second stop light which will be Pulelo St. Turn left on Pulelo St and go about 150 feet - turn left into the parking lot.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Star parties at Waikele are held nearest the first quarter Moon on Saturdays.

Kahala Community Park (Star Party)
Kahala Community Park is called Kahala Field on street maps. It is a double baseball field on the ocean side of Kahala Elementary, which is ocean side of Kahala Mall.(you cannot see the ocean from here). The nearest big street is Kilauea Ave., running between the school and the Mall. The streets defining the park are Pahoa, Moa and Pueo. Our collection of scopes is closest to the corner of Pahoa and Moa streets. Pahoa is the 3rd left off Kilauea after you have driven out from under the elevated section of H-1. You may miss one of those 3 lefts so Pahoa may be the second left that you notice. If you miss it, turn left on Pueo and circle the field. As you drive down Kilauea and see a MacDonalds on your right, you will know it is time to turn left. The community center building in the park, near the corner of Pahoa and Moa, is fairly large and long, with obnoxious lights on the street side. There is a small parking lot so do your best with street parking and please avoid making unnecessary noise near the neighborhood houses. When we lose this unique urban astronomy park, the people of Honolulu lose the universe.
Address:
4495 Pahoa Ave
Honolulu, HI 96816
(Get Directions)

Notes:
Short direction from points West: Take H-1 to Kahala Exit. Drive past Kahala Mall on your right (actually you go to the third stop light after exiting H-1). Turn right on Kilauea. Go to the third left which is Pahoa Ave. Go to the end of the narrow street and park along the street (there is a small parking lot but it is usually full). Walk onto the field and look for telescopes and people.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Star parties at Kahala are held nearest the first quarter Moon on Saturdays.

Dillingham Airfield and Glider Port (Star Party)
The Hawaiian Astronomical Society holds dark-sky star parties at Dillingham Airfield on Saturdays. This is the our premier location for star gazing. Dillingham Airfield is on Farrington Highway (State Highway #930) in Mokuleia. This is approximately 17 miles west of Wahiawa, down Kamehameha Highway (#99) towards Waialua. Just before the bottom of the hill, look for the Historic Haleiwa Town sign and take a left at the traffic light and enter Weed Circle (also called a Rotray). Follow it around to the left to Kaukonahua Road (Hwy 930) and then take a right at Thompson's Corner about a mile later (You can't go straight). Follow this road for approximately 6.7 miles from Thompson's Corner. You will pass a Gas station on your left then enter a small traffic circle. Keep to the left at the circle. The airfield has three gates and you want the third or last gate. Through this gate, you'll go by the hangers and back in the direction you came from, paralleling the runway. On the right side of the road, you'll see a windsock and a short little stop sign. At that intersection, make a right turn and our group will be in the parking area. It's about a mile from the gate. Remember this little short stop sign, you'll need to find it in the dark on your way out. For security reasons the airfield gates are locked around 6:30 p.m.; you should get there a little earlier to avoid being locked out. (If you find yourself locked out you can wait for a club member to come along and let you in.) Star parties are wonderful family events and we suggest that you bring a plate lunch or pizza for dinner for your family. Please remember that we are guest at this facility and we ask that you pick up your discards and dispose of them properly. Also, some insect repellent, a jacket and something to sit on could be helpful. Any flashlights must have a heavy layer of red cellophane over the lens as a matter of courtesy to others. You can stay as long as you wish, enjoy looking thorough all the telescopes and you'll be able to leave whenever you want to by checking with any club member. If you have a car with headlights that can't be turned off, we ask that you park close to the entrance of the viewing area with the car facing out so when you leave you can do so without creating a problem. Headlights ruin night vision, not to mention any astrophotography that may be in progress. As you leave the viewing area, be careful to turn left at that little short stop sign to get on the service road. If you miss it you will wind up on the aircraft taxiway and that's a No, No. The painted lines on the tarmac are for airplanes, not cars. If the line becomes a "Y," you have gone too far. STOP! Back-up until you find the service road (the little short stop sign) and exit there. And please, no alcohol.

68-750 Farrington Highway

Notes:
Public star parties at Dillingham are held on Saturdays between the 3rd quarter and new Moon each month. The above link provides a calendar for 2009. Dates due change so you should recheck the calendar before you make the drive to Dillingham
