Date: Saturday, 9/15/2012
Time: 7:30 PM - 1:00 AM
Location: Caledon Natural Area State Park, 11617 Caledon Rd, King George, VA 22485-3743 (Get Directions)
Information for Visitors:

This club monlthly star party is open to the public. Organizations wishing to bring a group to the star party should contact the club president.

Observing begins as soon as it is dark enough to see stars and planets, generally half an hour to an hour after sunset. Visitors arriving at or after dusk should enter the telescope field using only parking lights since bright lights reverse visual night adaptation of those already observing. People bringing telescopes should arrive before sunset to allow time for equipment setup without the need for bright lights. If you need help with your new telescope allow extra time by arriving early -- club members will be busy setting up their own scopes and will need the extra time in order to help newcomers.

Comments and anecdotes about the event:
The RAC backup star party was held Saturday (9/15/2012) at Calendon. the attendees were: Rana with her son and husband; Ben; Joe Francis and wife; Bart and Linda Billard, and myself (Leight Geitter). High clouds intermittently obscured some parts of the sky, and there was some dew, but the weather permitted identification of most of the available constellations at one time or another. The Ring Nebula in Lyra, the M13 Star Cluster in Hercules, and the Andromeda Galaxy were visible. I saw one extremely bright meteorite so bright that I expected it to be a bolide but no such luck. I hung in there until about 11:30, when the clouds and haze began to obscure most of the sky. Ben, with his large refractor, gets the "dedication" award for being last to leave! Leigh
