Comments and anecdotes about the event:
Great night! With 3 to 4 days of June Gloom Weather in days leading up to this event, I didnt think it was going to happen! We had a pretty good night for viewing with only a few thin clouds blocking Venus from time to time. I arrive at 5:30 and began setting up my scope along with many of the COC Astronomy Students who had their scopes in place already. Soon LGSCV Members; Jim Van Winkle Brian Shurlow Paul Keen Daryl Ross & Craig Van Webster Don Cogan had their telescopes in place as the sun was beginning to set. We were joined by: Bob Alborzian Tom White from the Side Walk Astronomers of Burbank, it was a lot of fun meeting and talking with them. The Campus Snack Bar was Bar B Queing some Hamburgers and the aroma was to much for me, I had to get one! Soon, The Campus area was a live with activity, some 400 people attend this event. Mark Wallace (JPL) gave a lecture in the open theater area on Mars (I think it was on Mars). With Saturn, Venus, Mars and of course, the ever presence "Big Moon" the public had plenty to look at. COC Staff really did a good job in the preparation of this event. They stopped all watering 3 days before the event. Most of the lighting was turn off to improve our dark sky capabilities and with COC staff their to assist us and the public, everything went smoothly. COC Star Parties Started about 5 or 6 years ago and is becoming one of the big events in the Santa Clarita Valley. COC has expressed to me they are wanting to have two Star parties a year in stead of just the one event, will see. Thanks again to all of you who made this night possible.
