Saturday Science at Mission Library Comets and Asteroids - What's the difference? We'll make a comet and study it's behavior. We'll also have some meteorites on hand to study. Most meteorites have their origin in the asteroid belt, so by studying meteorites we'll learn something about asteroids.

Information for Visitors:
We'll be making a comet. We'll study the behavior of the comet. We'll use dry ice to freeze the comet. This activity is safe, but it should be known that dry ice can burn unprotected skin. Safety instructions will be given during the demonstration. Children should be capable of following general directions to not touch the dry ice.

What materials were handed out?
Curious Comets, Meteor Showers, Moon Guide, Space Place tatoos and bookmarks. Each child got a set, so 11 of each thing was given out.
Comments and anecdotes about the event:
I made a comet in front of the group. It came out fairly good. However, the building is cooled with an evaporative system so the humidity is higher than usual. The comet ended up looking very fuzzy with all the ice crystals forming on it.
