The Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh, Inc. (AAAP), founded in 1929 on Pittsburgh's Northside, promotes amateur astronomy and public outreach throughout southwestern Pennsylvania and beyond. With an average of over 500 members, our volunteers share views of the night sky through their personal astronomy equipment and club-owned telescopes at the club's two observatories, Mingo Observatory in Mingo Creek County Park, Washington County and Wagman Observatory in Deer Lakes Park, Allegheny County. From April through November, public star gazing events are scheduled at the club's observatories as well as at municipal, county, and state parks, libraries, schools, and other locations. Members also work with scouts, churches, and other groups to share their passion of the night sky. On the second Friday of the month from September through May, the AAAP hosts a public meeting with guest lecturers. The lectures are free and open to the public and feature some of the latest research in astronomy.
