In partnership with the Astronomical Society of the Pacific
MUDDY RUN Observatory
Muddy Run Observatory is owned by Exelon Generation Co. LLC and will be operated by the Rittenhouse Astronomical Society, with the support of Astronomy Enthusiasts of Lancaster County and the Harford County Astronomical Society. The observatory is located within the Muddy Run Recreation Park in Southern Lancaster County (Holtwood PA). The observatory is currently under re-construction and will have a pre-opening daytime Solar eclipse program on August 21st. The facility will open in October and provide monthly stargazing opportunities from March to October. The facility will host special events by appointment and will operate in conjunction with an educational program for school and other organization outings.
This past October (2016) we celebrated an Open House at the Observatory at which the Rittenhouse Astronomical Society awarded it's Rittenhouse Medal to Professor Freeman Dyson. Members of the society, guests and Exelon representatives attended for an overview of educational and observational plans for the facility.
