Lake County Astronomical Society
About Us
The Lake County Astronomical Society was formed in 1982 with the mission of serving members and public who are interested in astronomy. The majority of our members and visitors are from Lake County. However, the club attracts members from surrounding areas in northeast Illinois and southeast Wisconsin. Ex-local members continue their membership from as far away as Florida, Utah, and Arizona. LCAS is very active in astronomy public outreach. The club schedules 18-20 events per year at area public libraries, provides free public access to club meetings, serves special classes at the Volo Bog host location, and delivers events to private groups like scouts, and schools. LCAS's outreach activities earned them a special mention in Astronomy Magazine's 2011 "Out of This World" club outreach contest.
