AAS is one of the most active regional astronomical societies in the country. Based in Austin, Texas, we have helped Central Texas astronomers enjoy the night sky since 1969.  
 
In addition to monthly meetings and talks from guest speakers, we hold monthly practical astronomy sessions.  Loaner telescopes and mentoring are available to beginners.  We hold two monthly star parties: one public event at either Pedernales Falls State Park or Inks Lake State Park and one members-only star party at our field outside Lampasas. We host the yearly Austin Under the Stars and numerous outreach star parties for local groups.
