Event

How BIG is BIG, How F A R is FAR and HOW SMALL WE REALLY ARE! Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? How many times have you heard that on just a journey around the country? Just think that even at the speed of 1,000 miles per hour (twice what most commercial airliners fly) it would still take 8.3 years to reach the nearest star (our Sun) and for all intents and purposes we haven't left our block yet. Copernicus was right; we are not the center of the Universe (although some teenage girls will argue that point). Want to find out how we may not even be a Dust Mote in God's eye (my apologies to Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle for using their title)? Then join Skip Bird, Outreach Director of the Westminster Astronomical Society. Learn fun and unique ways to leave the planet, journey to the stars and still be back in time for dinner.

Comments and anecdotes about the event:
IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE OR THE SUREST SIGN THERE IS INTELLIGENT LIFE IN THE UNIVERSE IS THAT NONE OF IT HAS CONTACTED US. DRAKE WAS RIGHT. NOT THE SINGER OR THE DUCK BUT THE EQUATION, WITH THE NUMBER OF EXOPLANETS DISCOVERED AND FILLING IN THE NEW NUMBERS THE KLINGON EMPIRE IS ONLY A FEW YEARS AWAY FROM TAKING OVER THE GALAXY THAT IS UNLESS MING THE MERCILESS GETS HERE FIRST. HE MAY EVEN DEFEAT THE BORG, BUT MY MONEY IS ON THE REPLICATORS GETTING IT ALL. IN CASE YOUR WONDERING IF WE DID ANY NSN STUFF, WE MADE POCKET SOLAR SYSTEMS AND WENT ON A SCALE MODEL WALK BUT MING SOUND SO MUCH MORE FUN.
