The temperature was 40 degrees, and the stiff wind must have made the wind chill factor in the low 30s, but Mell Spruill and George Reynolds set up telescopes for SUN Day, and 21 people braved the cold to see two small sunspots and a hint of prominences. Mel had two scopes set up, a white light filter and a Lunt Ha filtered telescope, attached to Mel's iPad for various views of the sunspots and flares. George had his Shorttube 80 with the Sun Funnel. Several families had kids that showed a lot of interest in astronomy. We told some how they could view Mars at night and Mercury just after sunset in the week ahead.
