Information for Visitors

Instructions for the Public:
This event is open to the public on both nights, but the program for the public is on Saturday. The rangers make some home made ice-cream. The rangers help out by turning out the lights for some dark sky viewing. Please use red lights to preserve everyone's night vision. A white light flashlight can be turned into a red light by cutting an end of a red balloon and stretching it over the flashlight. This includes white light from your smartphones, the light from the screen will effect your night vision and everyone else around you. Please turn down the brightness of the display, if you have the ability to change to night vision please use it. The rangers turn out the white lights in the park for us to enhance our viewing pleasure, please don't bring white lights with you and spoil the view. When coming and going from the site in your car please use your parking lights until your headlights are directed away from the telescopes. If you can't turn off your headlights then park with your headlights pointed away from the viewing area so when you start your car the lights are not pointed over the telescope field. Let us all have an enjoyable observing event.

Event Report

Comments and anecdotes about the event:
We had a telescope viewing following a PowerPoint presentation. The fires out west did influence our sky conditions, along with some clouds and winds. The PowerPoint was about Our Place in Our Galaxy. They liked the seed demonstration for stars. The event turned out really well.
