Mars is approaching another opposition on December 8th. Amateur astronomers around the world will be pointing their telescopes toward the Red Planet in the weeks ahead. Some will be hoping to capture images of its dusty reddish surface for the first time. Both novice and seasoned planetary imagers are invited to attend the next meeting of the KAS AP-SIG for a special presentation.

Agapios Elia will join us from Cyprus and give a live demonstration of capturing video of Mars and take us through the main steps of processing the results...all during the meeting. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions at every step along the way. Mr. Elia will also cover the hardware, software, and methodology for high resolution planetary imaging.

About the Speaker:
Mr. Elia is an amateur astronomer and astrophotographer living in Cyprus. Active in the field of practical astronomy and astrophotography from a very young age, he quickly found great joy in observing with a telescope and imaging especially, as the latter offers the ability to share one’s views and inspire the next person to look up. Although the solar system and the planets in particular are his main interest, he engages in all types of imaging and celestial photography. During the day (and night) Mr. Elia works as an Astronomy Guide for the Nicosia-based Astronomical Observatory and also take part in various astronomy related projects as an advisor/researcher. He also takes part in various professional-amateur collaboration projects such as NASA's JunoCam project and the planetary impact flash detection project "DeTect".
