· 11:30 pm – 3:00 am – Leonids meteor shower.
Our November Learning the Night Sky series will feature four constellations from Greek mythology, we will demonstrate how to navigate the night sky using just your hand, and we will observe some terrific deep sky treasures with telescopes.
This years’ Leonids are expected to be decent, around 15 meteors per hour. Back in 1966, the Leonids produced one of the greatest meteor storms in history. On November 17, 1966, thousands of meteors per minute plowed through our atmosphere over the course of 15 minutes! Will the 2012 Leonids whimper or roar this year? The only way to know is to see for yourself.
Current weather projections call for mostly clear skies with a low of 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Dress warmly and don’t forget your chairs, blankets, and hot chocolate. As per park rules, no alcohol is allowed.
Little Mulberry Park has three entrances; our meeting place will be off Fence Road. We will meet at the top of the hill northwest of the parking lot. There will be signs and neon lights to mark the way.
All this information is also on our Events Calendar at http://graveyardshiftastronomy.org. Hope to see you all there.
