PLEASE NOTE: This April we are meeting on the fourth rather than the third Friday of the month due to Good Friday falling on April 18.

Regular Business Meeting is at 7:30 pm (open to public) Free Public Program starts at about 8:30 p.m. (open to the public).

PUBLIC PROGRAM
Join us for a fascinating presentation given by Dr. Melville Ulmer from Northwestern University, who will present “The Growth of The Largest Scale Structures in the Universe — Clusters of Galaxies”.  Clusters of galaxies are the largest gravitationally-bound systems in the Universe.  How they formed and continued to evolve is an ongoing area of astrophysical research.  These structures play a major role in understanding the nature of the “Dark Universe” which is made up of "Dark Energy" and "Dark Matter.”  Their environments also affect how galaxies evolve.  Dr. Ulmer will use his own research on these topics as a framework for describing how astrophysicists wrestle with the big questions — "Where did we come from?" and "Where are we going?".

After the program, if the weather permits, members of the club will set up telescopes in the parking lot for some viewing of the night sky.
