One of the highlights of this year’s Geranium Festival is a contest for dogs with awards for best dressed and best personality. Contest begins at 1 p.m. at the stage. Other dog related activities include low cost pet vaccine and microchipping, a police canine demonstration at noon and a pet adoption project. Other events for the whole family include a train ride, rock climbing wall and a special truck the will allow you to shred unwanted documents sponsored by Athens (limited to 96 gallons per household). Other activities scheduled for this year include a pie eating contest, watermelon eating contest, three-legged races and hula hoop contests. There will also be a number of interactive booths, such as the ELAC Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) booth which will show how to do an experiment; the Home Depot Kids Workshop; playing Futsal; and looking through telescopes with the Los Angeles Astronomical Society.
