A collaborative effort by students, staff, and faculty at the SIU College of Mass Communications and Media Arts
5:30 p.m. Shine on the red-carpet in your best cosmic-wear* ... and bring your favorite eclipse day story for the SIU Eclipse Cam!
6:00 p.m. Performance by the Jenny Johnson band
6:30 p.m. Documentary screening immediately followed by Q&A with the directors and special guests, Mat Kaplan with Planetary Radio and Michelle Nichols with Adler Planetarium
8:00 p.m. Star-Gazing party and reception Telescopes provided by the SIU Physics Department
Family Friendly event. Free and open to the public.
Documentary run-time is 55 minutes.
*Cosmic-wear - Eclipse t-shirts, space-themed or stars/moon clothing; Black Tie NOT required!
Students, staff and faculty of SIU’s College of Mass Communication and Media Arts taped hundreds of hours of eclipse-related planning and interviews even before they captured this natural wonder above Southern Illinois. The resulting documentary, In the Shadow, highlights the history, the science and, above all, the mind-blowing human experience of witnessing a total solar eclipse in Southern Illinois on August 21, 2017.
