Event

The monthly club meeting is held the first Wednesday of each month at 7 PM. It is a hybrid meeting. In person attendance at the Cox Science Center and Aquarium is encouraged for those living in the area.  A Zoom link is sent to all members via the io. group. The guest speaker will be first on the program with the business meeting to follow.

Our speaker this month is club member Maurcio Moreno whose presentation will be "A discussion on the experience of horizons in our terrestrial lives and how the discovery of horizons in the space has impacted cosmology".

Mauricio Moreno, a life-long Florida resident, received a BFA in Computer Animation at UCF in 2008 and is currently a planetarian and STEM educator at the Cox Science Center and Aquarium. Despite his studies of the digital arts, he has always had a passion for astronomy and has enjoyed giving views of the cosmos to thousands of people during outreach efforts through CFAS (Central Florida Astronomy Society) and ASPB.

Event Report

Comments and anecdotes about the event:
This was our first meeting in the STEM building at the Cox Science Center. It was a hybrid meeting with 11 attending in person and 14 on Zoom. The thought provoking presentation focused on the concept of actual, apparent and visible horizons not only in every day experience but in cosmology. We had one new member in attendance.
