Mount Diablo State Park's Volunteer-in-Parks (VIP) Orientation and Registration

Required Training Session for Astronomy Volunteers on Mount Diablo. If you wish to bring your own telescope or help with the public in other ways on Public Astronomy Nights on Mount Diablo, the State Park requires you to complete this training. (No training is required to attend Society Observing nights or community/school events)

This first Session will be held online.
The second Session is Saturday, February 15, 10-11 am in person.

VIP’s are covered by the State’s liability insurance and Workers Compensation. 

Mount Diablo State Park will hold Part 1 is a Volunteer Orientation on Wednesday, February 12  6:30 to 8:30 pm.  This first part will be online. You will receive the Zoom link after you RSVP to Sharon Peterson (sharon.peterson@parks.ca.gov)

Part 2 will be Saturday, February 15, 10:00 to 11:00am at the open-air barn at the Macedo Ranch Staging Area.  This is a chance for the Park to get to know you in person.  They have arranged for a mobile fingerprinting service to come that day.  You will also be submitting your completed registration packet for review and approval.  They will send more details after the meeting on the 12th.

Volunteering at Mount Diablo State Park is a rewarding experience. We hope you will consider becoming a regular volunteer.

Send RSVP to Sharon Peterson (sharon.peterson@parks.ca.gov) if you are planning to attend and she will send you more information about the trainings.
If you can't make this session, no worries -- another session will be planned in a few months. Contact Sharon to let her know. She will keep you on the prospective list.
