Fascinated by the different galaxies and stars? Then come and learn more! This winter and spring the Kempsville Recreation Center is partnering with the Back Bay Amateur Astronomers Club to provide residents with a fun and interactive introductory series on the wonders above. Classes are two part - in class instructional, followed by a stroll outside to look up and see the night skies through telescopes provided. (Weather permitting).

 

Types of Telescopes. What to look for in a telescope. Why we advise NOT buying a telescope... until you get binoculars and learn the constellations, and talk with our astronomy club members to find what is the right telescope for you.

The outdoor portion of the event is weather permitting

- Outdoor observing through telescopes
- Various night sky targets will be viewed outside
- Reservations are required. Class fee $5 per person- center membership or day pass is required, or a qualifying insurance membership such as Silver Sneakers:

George was kind enough to share his expertise with telescope selection and discrimination, before a fine observing session and hands-on familiarization with telescope designs and needs. The skies were cooperative, but the breeze was strong = great for dew control, a little worse for the astronomers! With the visitors in groups, we actually had more telescopes than groups of observers!
