Event

Our Monthly meeting at the New School in Kennebunk.  Regular topics are What's up by Our VP and Astroshorts.

our speaker is Dana Hutchins, a multimedia artist and science exhibit designer with a longtime interest in theoretical astrophysics. In addition to media production for CalTech and MIT on the LIGO project, installations include Harvard Center for Astrophysics, the Library of Congress, Orlando Science Center and the Gulf of Maine Research Institute.

Visiting John Wheeler in South Bristol, Maine in 1990 to discuss the LIGO project I noticed a tiled sphere on the screen of his computer, the qubit surface of a black hole. Jacob Bekenstein, Kip Thorne, Stephen Hawking, their collaborators and detractors had already gathered many of the puzzle pieces. Key gaps still remain to be filled in.
