Crises in Science: Dark Matter and Dark Energy

A century ago, when relativity and quantum mechanics created parallel upheavals in physics, science saw twin revolutions threatening the very foundations of knowledge. Today, we face a similar situation. While dark matter and dark energy have similar names, they have almost nothing else in common, but our understanding of them will require major changes in physics. We will explore both subjects, the latest discoveries and conjectures, and justify the claim that we understand only four percent of what makes up our universe.
