WHAT IS SOCIETY OBSERVING NIGHT?
A time for learning from each other! Society observing nights are for MDAS members to setup their telescopes or other equipment on Mount Diablo for personal viewing and for their own projects. This is an opportunity to talk with and request assistance from other members on the use of telescopes or other equipment as well as increasing your understanding of the night sky.
This is a Society-members-only event.
For first-time Society Night observers:
We suggest you attend the Society Night and ask someone there for all the protocols (etiquette basics below). Also, don’t leave the site by yourself. Go down with another member.
You'll find members who are quite helpful if you're just learning to use your scope or have other questions. You are not required to bring a telescope or binoculars or other equipment. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the variety of telescopes available. Please ask before taking a look through another member's scope.
Feel free to ask for assistance. We all learn from each other!
See "SOCIETY OBSERVING NIGHT ETIQUETTE BASICS" below.
Happy observing!
