PROGRAM
The Speaker for this month's LCAS meeting is Dr. Amanda Bauer. Dr. Bauer is the Montgomery Foundation Deputy Director and Head of Science & Education at Yerkes Observatory. She received her PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Texas at Austin studying variations in how galaxies form, how they live their lives, and how they evolve into the diverse array of galaxy species we see today. The topic for this month's presentation will be "Yerkes Observatory: 125 Years of History and a Bright Future". Dr. Bauer will also have a brief discussion about the Vera Rubin Observatory and its science. This is sure to be an interesting and educational presentation. Please join us.
Afterwards LCAS members will show guests the night sky through powerful telescopes (weather permitting).

Instructions for the Public:
The free public program will start at about 7:00 p.m. Visitors are also welcome to attend the business meeting that starts at 8:30 p.m. Light snacks and drinks will be available. Children are welcome. After the program, if the weather permits, members of the club will set up telescopes in the parking lot for some viewing of the night sky.

Volo Bog
Volo Bog was dedicated as an Illinois Nature Preserve in 1970. Three years later, it was registered as a National Natural Landmark with the United States Department of the Interior. More than 1,100 additional acres of land have been purchased to protect and enlarge the state preserve, which now includes marshes, prairie restoration areas, woodlands and two other bogs.
