Comments and anecdotes about the event:
This was a great event. We had 4 scopes set up for solar. Two were tandem mounted with H-alpha / White light. Two were white light scopes. Of the 4-500 that turned out for the picnic, we had 150 come to our scopes. We added 24 more club members bringing our total to 350. The Magnetic Sun Kit was a great hit. We were able to set up 4 education stations. One for magnetic demonstrations using the bar magnets, the other using a pair of sunglasses with the UV beads, a third with the Mexican sombrero and the fourth using the solar glasses. Parents enjoyed demonstrations with the kids showing them the importance of using caps, sun glasses and sun protection lotion. We purchased a stand to hold the banner which was extremely useful to explain the various type of scopes were using and how that related to the banner. We also handed out sky maps to be used for the month for those interested in learning how to use them for personal observations.
