Club member, Mark Whipple, will lead an 8-session series on Wednesdays from 2-4 p.m. at the UNC-Asheville's Osher Lifelong Learning Insitute. The topic is Exploring the Universe.
The course begins on September 22, and continues on every Wednesday through November 10.
Exploring the Universe will be about the use of technology to learn about the solar system, the Milky Way, and the cosmos. The course will be divided into two four-week sections: In the first half of the course we will learn about telescopes, from Galileo's first one to the James Webb infrared space telescope not yet in service. The last four weeks, we will study the history of unmanned space probes, from the early lunar missions through Mariner and Voyager and up through the recent Mars landers.
