Comments and anecdotes about the event:
This was an impromptu solar observation session with Cal Fire at the Kneeland Airportt. Cal Fire had been there for several days and had seen several amateur astronomers setting up telescopes in the parking lot outside the airport. They were surprised to see someone out in the daytime and I invited them to look through a H-alpha telescope and also a small telescope outfitted with a white light solar filter. They were amazed to see how active the sun looked with the H-alpha telescope. In all there were a dozen crew members that came by in small groups to observe, They had a lot of questions about the uptick in activity during this current solar cycle, and the underlying reasons for the increase in solar storms. I emailed them pictures of the sun taken with the white-light filter and H-alpha with an explanation of what each image showed: sunspots, prominences, active regions, and filaments.
