On Friday, November 8, The Amateur Observers Society of NY (AOSNY) and Astronomical Society of Long Island (ASLI), who have combined memberships in excess of 250 people, are joining forces with The Harry Chapin Food Bank to raise food and monetary donations for Long Island Cares: The Harry Chapin Food Bank. This is truly a monumental endeavor for a great cause as the three entities combine to raise both personal awareness and needed food to the struggling families of Long Island.
Over 20 members of the Amareur Observors' Society of Long Island will have their telescopes set up at Field 1 of Sunken Meadow State Park from 6:00PM - 10:00 PM. Attendees will be able to view the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter and other nighttime wonders. The Club members will provide breathtaking views through their equipment and that evening will be a prime time to appreciate the wonders of the night sky. Additonal Club members will be in attendance to provide subject matter expertise for event attendees.
