Telescopes are requested to help with their activity/event that starts at 6:00 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. on 11/16/2024. Right now, a bit of a two-pronged approach is our thinking. They will present how the stars and constellations were used in the period of the fort, 1808-1822, by settlers, explorers and American Indians. The Osage Nation has the creation stories tied to their ancestors falling from the heavens and becoming the Osage.
Proposed site address is Fort Osage National Landmark, 105 Osage Street in Sibley. We have a back parking lot and an open filed to the northwest of our ed center for the activity. Attached images should give some perspective for you. Right now, we’re thinking of a 2-3 hour program time. We have gates at the back parking lot entrance so we can control access per program time. The lot backs right into the open filed for ease of access and public parking. Also, a diesel powered John Deere gator that we can provide a driver for to move equipment as well.
They are seeking volunteers with telescopes for guests to view.
