Event

Seeking volunteers with telescopes for guests and a speaker for the public.

Local contact cell number is (660) 351-2429.
Perhaps a volunteer or two would like to talk to the public beforehand, maybe start at 7:30 or 8 p.m.  No end time really. They figured the volunteers could stay for as long as they wanted, but move the public along and out by 10 p.m.
They  have a few open fields that, I think, would work well for setup. Parking will be at the park’s pergola. There is an open field just to the north and another field to the south of the pergola. We may get some distracting yard, road and security lights to the north. The south field may be better.
o   From Kansas City,
§  I-70 East toward Columbia;
§  take Exit 49 toward MO-13/Higginsville/Warrensburg;
§  turn left onto State Highway 13 and travel north. You’ll enter Higginsville city proper near the 5-mile mark.
§  It doesn’t matter how you get onto Business Route Highway 13, as long as you do so. There are just 2 stoplights in Higginsville.
·         If you make a right at the first light near Taco Bell, just follow the route (Fairground Avenue to Main Street) eventually heading north and toward the park entrance.
·         If you decide to avoid downtown Higginsville, keep straight on Highway 13 through both stoplights. About a mile or so north of McDonald’s is an awkward little corner you’ll need to take to the right. This turn gets you onto the Business Route. Travel east another couple of miles, passing the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery (white wrought iron fence) and the state park on the left side of the road.
§  You’ll want to enter the park through the main entrance, at another awkward little corner where BR Hwy 13, Highway 20, Highway 213 and the park entrance all intersect.
§  Once you get into the park, it’s pretty simple. Just keep to the right and you’ll drive right up to the pergola parking lot.
·         A few extra notes, there is no electricity in the park/recreation area. There is, however, a water fountain and latrine-type restrooms available near the pergola.

Thanks again,
