The Annual Sturm Memorial Lecture took place April 22, 2025 at Wesleyan University's Ring Family Performing Arts Center. The featured speaker was Dr. Sheperd Doeleman, Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian and the Founding Director of the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT). Topic: "How to take a photo of a black hole." A reception was held at the Van Vleck Observatory, following the public talk. I asked the Observatory's director if I could do tours of the 100 year old Alvan Clark refractor. When I approached the dome, I found it already open with a grad student, Katie, already having the scope on Mars. Together we greeted visitors while I spoke with the group who came to look through the great refractor. Although it was quite cloudy, each visitor still managed to get a view of Mars.
Afterwards, Katie and I closed up and parked the scope. There was no one left in the hall when we were done!
