Members of the Astronomical Society of New Haven will have their telescopes set up to show you some of the best objects in the late spring sky, weather permitting. There a quarter Moon tonight, so it's a great time to study Moon features along the terminator, the dividing line between day and night. Mars and Venus willl be visible sailing together across the night. sky. Mars will be very close to the Beehive Cluster in Cancer. There will be many constellations visible in the spring with double stars, star clusters, and galaxies.
Bring binoculars if you have them so you can do your own exploring in between looks through the big telescopes. If you bring a flashlight, please cover it with red cellophane or red plastic or set your cell phone flashlight to red to preserve everyone’s night vision. Mosquitos are very active spring evenings, so be prepared with repellants.
