Event

There will be a special occultation to observe July 13!  The Moon will pass in front of the bright star Spica, hiding it for about an hour and 20 minutes.  At magnitude +1, Spica is the brightest star in Virgo, and one of the 20 brightest in the night sky.  The Moon will be at first quarter during the occultation and as seen from Bartlesville Spica will disappear behind the dark (east) limb of the Moon at about 10:08pm and will reappear from behind the bright (west) limb at about 11:26 pm.  Since Spica is so bright, this will be easily observed by eye, binoculars and telescope!
