My name is Dr. Emily Hardy and I am a lecturer at Old Dominion University. I saw your table during Fall Fest last year and got your contact information from First Landing State Park. I am one of three professors planning the Reign in Science Outreach Day at ODU this September. The event is on September 28th from 10am-1pm (Oct. 5th is the rain date) and involves students going to STEM activity tables. Last year there were over 500 people from the 7 cities in attendance. We try to host an inclusive and engaging event for our local area, so we try to include activities that are accessible to students from the age of pre-K all the way to high school. Here are some links to give you a better idea of the event: Website: https://ww1.odu.edu/sci/scienceday Youtube Video: https://youtu.be/_Ej7m-xUbhc?si=108UvCD148rm7USD Program for 2023: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GwM7lEf0wN9nlIw9Pjo_p5unJfHsfPvftcS6jZus3Ec/edit?usp=sharing I am reaching out to ask if Back Bay Amateur Astronomers would be interested in partnering in this event. We are expanding our partnerships this year to include First Landing State Park, Norfolk State University, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, all the departments in the college of Sciences at ODU, and we would love to include Norfolk Naval Shipyard as well. We could set up an area for you to do some general STEM outreach, or maybe discuss how STEM education can lead to careers in STEM. We are open to whatever you would like to do. The event is similar to fall fest in that there are tables/stations and students choose their own destiny with their parents as they walk around. Please let me know if you think this is something that you and your organization would be interested in, or if you have any questions for me.
