Solar scopes will be used until sunset for safe views of the Sun and then guests will be able to observe the Moon and any other night sky objects for the rest of the event.

Event Report

Comments and anecdotes about the event:
Superbly clear night sky. Although the light pollution was present from the city lights and boardwalk, our visitors enjoyed view through the 4 telescopes that were brought to this outreach event. The Seestar S50 was very popular, and visitors tried to look through it. I corrected them, and they were impressed with the live photos taken of the Sun, Moon, M13, M27, M31, and Alberio.

The Virginia Beach Rollerskating Association visited the Back bay Amateur Astronomers at Boardwalk Astronomy on 5/6/25, taking the time to see if the springtime galaxies spinning across the night sky were as bright as their illuminated wheels! (Photo by J. Mitchell)

What's a little sunlight between friends? The Virginia Beach Boardwalk didn't know what it was in for on the afternoon of 5/6/25, as the Back Bay Amateur Astronomers started setting up for the first Boardwalk Astronomy session of the season. Bright skies were no problem as solar telescopes came out and collimation checks gave way to lunar observing even before the sun set. (Photo by J. Mitchell)
