Join us for a public program at the Bruneau Dunes Observatory, part of our twice-weekly (Friday & Saturday nights) observing sessions. The program in June starts at 9:30 and we observe until around 12:30, weather and other factors permitting, with solar viewing and observatory tours taking place beforehand at 7:30. Come let us show you the stars through our 25 inch Newtonian reflecting telescope, as well as several other large telescopes, binoculaurs, and beautiful naked eye viewing. Situated next to the tallest single structured sand dunes in North America, the Bruneau Observatory is in a beautiful, dark-sky location perfect for observing the night sky, while conveniently being only about an hour from the state's capital, Boise, as well as being close to several other large cities in Southern Idaho. While the stars steal the show at the observatory, there is much to learn about here, including information about the dunes and the wildlife (scorpions glow under UV light, and we often do a scorpion walk to provide visitors someting to do in between looking through the telescopes), All our presentations, solar viewing, and observatory tours are free and open to the public. To view through the telescopes after dark, there is a $5 fee for adults and a $3 fee for students and seniors. Kids 5 and under are free!
