Private astronomy hike for the Colorado Springs Therapeutic Recreation Program (TRP) on Friday, May 13th from 7-9 PM at the Blodgett Peak Trailhead.
Outreach Volunteers: I’ll be leading a hike of 11 adults with disabilities along with 8 caregivers and 3 staff members on the blodgett peak trail with stops along the way to talk about night eye adaptation, astronomy and star stories. At the conclusion of the hike, we’ll return to the parking lot for telescope viewing of the Moon and other celestial sights. The parking lot will be blocked off for us (you can move cones for entry into the parking lot area) and there is a bathroom available. With this many attendees we could use just 1-2 additional astronomers to support the event upon return from the hike.
The Therapeutic Recreation Program (TRP) provides opportunities for youth and adults with disabilities to acquire skills that enable them to participate in leisure experiences of their choice and enhance their abilities to function within a community setting. The TR staff provides advocacy and inclusion support for individuals with disabilities to enjoy general recreation activities, as well as specialized therapeutic programs
