A free public event is coming up at the Wichita Advanced Learning Library Branch. A planetarium will be set up in conference room C where you can take a tour of the constellations in the October sky. Then we will travel through the solar system and do a fly by visit of all the planets, and where they are in their respective orbits around the Sun. Yes, we will visit the binary pair of Pluto and Charon.
After we explore the solar system we will travel out to a Globular Cluster in the constellation Hercules called M13, sometimes called the Great Globular Cluster that consists of several hundred thousand stars. The light from all those stars can be seen naked eye on a clear moonless night.
The tour will take around 30 minutes to travel to these distant bodies and then back to Earth. But before we land back on Earth we will travel to Earth's natural sattelite, our Moon. We will see Earth from the perspective of the Moon. The crew of Apollo 8 were the first to orbit the Moon and also the first to witness and photograph an Earthrise. The crew of Apollo 8 were Frank Borman, William Anders, and James Lovell Jr.
A signup sheet will be available at the library to reserve your tour. The planetarium will be available for 3 days only and seating is limited per tour. The planetarium show is wheelchair friendly where we can accommodate one wheelchair per showing.
All aboard!
