Family gathering in Austin, TX for the total Eclipse of April 8, 2024
I set up 3 telescopes and viewed the total eclipse. There was a 1st grader and a 6th grader with their parents and grandmother and 4 other adults viewing for a total of 2 elementary aged children and 8 adults. I explained why there are total eclipses and why they don't happen very often, also explained what was happenning as it happened. They viewed through the telescopes and with the solar glasses I provided. We had a 4" refractor with a solar filter on it and a 60mm Coronado Hydrogen-Alpha scope piggy backed on it. We were also using an 8" dobsonian reflector with a solar filter on it. We took images with an I phone mounted to the refractor. We also used UV Beads to explain how the Ultra Violet light still penetrated through the clouds untill totality and the the beads went blank. All in attendance were excited to learn and experience the eclipse.
