PROGRAM 
 
Jim Kovac with the Speaker's Bureau of the Chicago Society for Space Studies will be the speaker at this month's meeting of the Lake County Astronomical Society. The talk will be  on  life forms living in extreme conditions on earth and what it means for finding life in our Solar System and beyond. Jim Kovac has presented to LCAS in the past  and we are very much looking forward to his talk. This is sure to be very interesting and educational.

There is an LCAS business meeting from 7:30 PM to about 8:15 PM. The presentation will start about 8:30. Afterwards LCAS members will show guests the night sky through powerful telescopes (weather permitting). Please join us.

Instructions for the Public:
The free public program will start at about 8:30 p.m. Visitors are also welcome to attend the business meeting that starts at 7:30 p.m. Light snacks and drinks will be available. Children are welcome. After the program, if the weather permits, members of the club will set up telescopes in the parking lot for some viewing of the night sky.

Location Details

Volo Bog
Volo Bog was dedicated as an Illinois Nature Preserve in 1970. Three years later, it was registered as a National Natural Landmark with the United States Department of the Interior. More than 1,100 additional acres of land have been purchased to protect and enlarge the state preserve, which now includes marshes, prairie restoration areas, woodlands and two other bogs.

Notes:

Comments and anecdotes about the event:
Jim Kovac from the Chicago Society for Space Studies gave a presentation about life forms on earth living in extreme conditions and how studying them would help in finding life in our Solar System and beyond. Members and guests were intrigued with the presentation and there was a lively question and answer period after the talk.
