In 2023 there will be a public star party on the third Friday from February through November. Each star party begins with a talk on an astronomical topic of interest, followed, weather permitting, by observing. The talk will proceed even if the weather does not permit stargazing (barring a blizzard, of course).
This month's talk topic - (probably) Astronomy 001 - How the sky works. We cover the motions of the Earth and Sun, why there are seasons, the notion of 'solar' time vs. 'star' time vs. calendar time. The very basics.
No prior knowledge of astronomy is required - just curiosity. Observing will be at the club's observatory on the grounds of White Memorial. Club members will use the club's telescopes to show the wonders of the night sky and describe objects of interest. Feel free to bring binoculars or a telescope.
Free; open to the public. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Dress warmly, as even in the summer it may be chilly.
