Our guest and featured presenter is Kristin Brady, PhD, a professional astronomer who recently joined the staff at The Monterey Institute for Research in Astronomy ("MIRA"). Here is a brief description of her presentation:
The summit of Mauna Kea on the Island of Hawaii is a world-renowned astronomical observing site, known for its exceptional observing conditions and advanced observatories. This talk will include an overview of the Mauna Kea observing site and a typical observing night at NASA's Infrared Telescope Facility.
Pre-meeting pizza dinner with our guest speaker: participating club members will be splitting the tab to treat our featured speaker to dinner at Blaze Pizza, Marina CA, starting at 5:15pm. Click here if you want to participate. The restaurant is in "The Dunes on Monterey Bay" shopping center off Highway 1 at Imjin Parkway, up the street from the MIRA office, as shown in the map below.
