Our program will be a presentation by retired Flight Controller at NASA's Johnson Space Center, Linda Thomas. Linda's presentation will be titled, "Spacesuits and Spacewalks 101."
Linda Tomas graduated with a B.A. from Austin College in Sherman, TX and an M.S. from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Linda spent her career at NASA's Johnson Space Center planning and implementing Extravehicular Activities - EVAs - commonly known as "spacewalks". She was an astronaut trainer, experienced the zero gravity plane, went inside all of the Space Shuttles while they were on the ground, experienced three shuttle launches, and was a flight controller in Mission Control. She has received numerous awards associated with work on Hubble Space Telescope repair missions. Austin College honored her with a Distinguished Alumni Award in 2010. Linda retired in July 2018 and relocated to Georgetown, TX.
Linda will introduce the components and operation of the US spacesuit, which is the smallest complete spacecraft. She will also talk about some of the 400 spacewalks that have been completed from the Space Shuttle and International Space Station since 1981.
