Our program will be very special. Waylon Troyer, Planetarium Director at Science Museum Oklahoma will be giving the Club a sneak peek at the new Love's Planetarium. Waylon's presentation will be titled, "Unveiling the Love's Planetarium: New Technology, New Discoveries."
 
Waylon has only been the director of the planetarium since March of 2023, but he’s been with the planetarium as a presenter and later as a technician since 2017. This was right around the time that the "new planetarium project" started coming into being. Original discussions of building a new planetarium actually started in the mid-90's after a few renovations were made to the Kirkpatrick Planetarium. However, the project only started to gain traction around 2017 as upgrades and renovations were starting up again, and we began switching to a digital planetarium system that was completed in 2018. Groundbreaking for the new Love's Planetarium occurred in December of 2021, and over the last three years we have all worked very hard to put together the best planetarium that we could build. It took contractors and vendors from three different countries, as well as everyone else in the museum, to make this project come to life, and we are incredibly excited to finally share it with our community.
What will you experience? In this presentation, Waylon would like to show off all of the new fancy things that the Love's Planetarium has to offer, but more importantly, he'd like to share how this incredible facility is able to provide an engaging educational experience unlike any other of its caliber.
