Event

This will be a public event to celebrate the birthday of John Dobson. The  Dobsonian telescope is one of the most common telescopes purchased today. Many amateur astronomers and general public have purchased these scopes but may not know how to use or maintain them.  We will invite all regional astronomy clubs and the general public to come out and bring their Dobsonian telescopes. We will offer instructions on how to clean, align and accessorize their telescope to make them more enjoyable to use.  This event is being held by St. Louis Astronomical Society.

Comments and anecdotes about the event:
Many visitors with questions on library telescope program, how to use or align their telescope, what telescope should they purchase? Also some visitors wanted to view night sky or learn to navigate sky with their own telescope. SLAS held a telescope contest with various categories such as most colorful, most lightweight, etc. One attendee had a 3D printed telescope! This event was a joint effort by 3 area astronomy clubs. An annual rotation for the event will have each club taking a turn hosting.
