The Rio Rancho Astronomical Society is hosting its annual Night Under the Stars on September 14th at Rainbow Park Observatory at 301 Southern Blvd. in Rio Rancho (Behind Rainbow Pool).   Jacob Wemhoner from New Mexico Tech will present Introduction to Lightning. He has designed a new instrument that measures the temperature of lightning strikes.  Analysis of his data will aid in preventing damage to power grids and prevent forest fires.   There will be an online and in-person silent auction and family activities including sun and star gazing, weather permitting.  Food will be available for a donation.
 
Activities begin at 5:00 pm with the Lightning Talk starting at 7:30.  It is free and open to the public.
