The Department of Physics of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia will unveil the new immersive digital planetarium system to the public with free full dome shows and live presentations with members of the Statesboro Astronomy Club sharing views through telescopes.
 
3 & 4 pm: WONDERS OF THE UNIVERSE - Peer deep into space through the eyes of the orbiting Hubble Space Telescope and travel back billions of years in time to witness the birth of the Universe. On this breathtaking excursion you'll witness the formation of galaxies and explore some of the most wondrous nebulae and astronomical structures yet discovered. As your travels continue, you'll fly deep into our own Milky Way Galaxy and return home to Earth on a spectacular tour through the Solar System. From Evans and Sutherland Digital Theater Productions.

7 & 8 pm: LAMPS OF ATLANTIS - Our search for the lost continent of Atlantis takes us on a journey through the astronomical knowledge and understanding of the ancient Greeks. How did the constellations get their names? What different patterns did ancient cultures see in the sky? Was Atlantis a real place? Did it really sink into the sea? We will uncover clues to help us solve this age-old mystery. Narrated by Terry O’Quinn, John Locke from TV’s LOST. From Evans and Sutherland Digital Theater Productions.
Dr. Clayton Heller will also give a live presentation on the Antikythera Mechanism with each evening presentation.
 
A live star show of the current night sky will also be included with each presentation. Free sky maps, Moon maps, telescopic observing if skies are clear in the evening, and more!
Admission: FREE   We will be collecting canned and non-perishable food to donate to our local food bank for those in need in our community, thank you for your donations. 
Location: The planetarium is in the Math/Physics Building (#203 on map) across Herty Drive from Hanner Fieldhouse/Complex between the Eidson House (Honors) and the Biology Building. Georgia Southern Planetarium
Georgia Southern University Math/Physics Bldg. room 2000-Planetarium Statesboro, GA From Hwy 67/Fair Rd turn on to the campus at Herty Drive. Drive all the way to the end and turn left through the open parking gate and in to the large parking lot to the right. The Math/Physics Bldg is directly across the parking gate area with a park like area out front. Walk through this area to the front doors of the Math/Physics Bldg and in to the front lobby. For telescopic observing, the astronomy observing deck is on the 4th floor of the Math/Physics Building.

Notes:
