Fifty-two years ago, geologist Harrison H. "Jack" Schmitt became the first scientist-astronaut to land on the Moon during Apollo 17- the longest and final mission of NASA's Apollo program. Across three days on the lunar surface, Schmitt explored the rough terrain of the Taurus-Littrow valley to conduct scientific investigations and collect moon rock samples.
Join the NASA Wallops Visitor Center on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to noon to get a close view of a moon rock sample collect by Schmitt during Apollo 17. While you're with us, explore lunar surface features through hands-on activities, learn about our new Artemis I Moon Tree, and try out a few challenges with Visitor Center docents.
