Event

SCOV Astronomy Club sponsors guided stargazing  on Tuesday, October 8, 7:00 pm, in the Golf Cart Parking Lot.

At 7 PM, all Sun City Oro Valley residents are invited for stargazing.  Will and Katelyn Clodfelder, who each have BS degrees from U of A in astronomy and started the business Stars on Wheels, will be guiding us through the night sky.  Bring a chair and binoculars if you have them.

All are welcome to bring their own telescopes and binoculars.  In case of cloudy weather, the party will be held in the Activity Center and Ed Jacoby will give us a great indoor presentation.

There is a good chance we will see the super bright A3-Atlas Comet.

In case of clouds or rain, the party will be held in the Activity Center and the Clodfelders will present, “Astounding Scale of our Solar System.” If you are not a SCOV resident or if you do not have your Activity Card, entry to the Activity Center will be made possible by a volunteer at the door.  You can also call the cell phone of Harold Wood, 559-740-9455 or Ed Jacoby, 512-431-5304.

Event Report

Comments and anecdotes about the event:
Will and Caitlyn Clodfelder, astronomy educators and owners of Stars on Wheels, were the advertised presenters for our night sky gazing. They were joined by two members who also set up their 8 inch as 6 inch telescopes. The Clodfelder's used their 11 inch telescope. Hazy skies we mostly just viewed the moon and Saturn. The Clodfelders did not give any kind of group orientation w hich was disappointing, but one-on-one we all had excellent conversations about the latest in astronomy, the issue of increased satellites, and how modern telescopes are expanding our view of the universe, even with new technology in ground-based telescopes.
