The Director of Parks and Recreation for the city of Springdale has asked us to support their telescope night/community blackout on June 6 at 9:30pm to 11:00pm.
The Director told me they are turning out as many city lights as possible. They have asked the businesses in town to turn out their lighting during that time as well. This event is in part related to their Dark Sky Certification efforts.
Springdale is pretty dark anyways, but if they succeed in turning out the lights, that will be awesome. This would be a rare and memorable event.
The exact location is on the softball field behind the Canyon Community Center, 126 Lion Blvd, Springdale, UT 84767. Volunteers may park in the parking lot behind the building and walk across the pedestrian bridge to the ball field.
People bringing telescopes must set up by 8:45PM so the lights can go out and event start at 9:30PM SHARP.
