Event

Have you heard that Jefferson College is partnering with the St. Louis Astronomical Society to build an observatory on the Hillsboro campus. In spite of COVID, the plans continue to move forward:

- The location on campus has been decided and site preparation is underway
- Site plans and artist renderings have been developed by an architect
- Money has been allocated to rollout phase one of site preparation
- A research grade telescope and an observatory dome have been purchased

We had hoped to host in-person star parties at the observatory site but this is not possible due to the pandemic. Instead, we will have a 60 minute "virtual star party" that will be hosted by faculty at Jefferson College and members of the St. Louis Astronomical Society. The program will provide an overview of plans for the observatory, help you learn how to navigate the night sky, talk about items that you can see in the night sky right now and discuss upcoming astronomy events of interest.
